Symphonic Poem “Rattanakosin”

Rattanakosin is a symphonic poem inspired by the historical novel “Rattanakosin” by V. Vinicchayakul which is based upon the circumstances and the living of Thai people in the early Rattanakosin period (1782-1851)—the fourth and the present kingdom of Thailand. This composition expresses scenes and people’s lives in the early days of Rattanakosin into different sections of music as follows:

1. Rattanakosin Kingdom / 2. Riverside House / 3. Children Playing Near The River
   4. In The Temple / 5. War / 6. Waiting, missing, thinking of you—Embrace

This composition was originally titled “Rattanakosin Overture”, but after this publication, it was changed to Symphonic Poem “Rattanakosin” and subtitled “Scenes from Early Siam”. The composition calls for traditional Thai percussion instruments (Krap, Mong, Klong Sabadchai, Thai Cymbal, Ching, Klong Yao), but it is also possible to use general percussion instruments instead. Please use the instruments that are suitable to your ensemble.
