Originally the piece existed as a ‘song chan’ song (a moderate tempo piece), formerly known as ‘Khaek Moang’. In 1928, Prince Paribatra enlarged and reduced it into ‘sam chan’ and ‘chan deow’ pieces (slow as well as a fast tempo pieces), making up a complete ‘tao’ (consisting of slow, moderate, and fast movements).
He also added an original new episode into the second part, making the piece even more attractive. It is interesting to note that originally, the Prince composed the complete ‘Khaek Sai Tao’ for a Western military band, then later on, adapted for a pipat ensemble. The “tao’ has been one of the Prince’s most popular works along with ‘Khaek Mon Bangkhunprom Tao’.
The lyrics was adapted from ‘Unaruth’, a famous literature written by King Rama I.
