Program Note

Nok Noi March (EN: Little Bird March) is a concert march that is designed for beginner’s level ensemble performance. The composer created the lively and leaping melody alongside the quotation of the song “Ruk Nong (EN: Song for the Loved One)” (Music and Lyrics by Kunsak Reuangkongiaradti) which surrounded him since his undergraduate years. The song begins with “The little bird’s flying through air high above a sea of hills…” and ends with “…My wish is to keep you safe in days and dreams.” (English lyrics by Siraruj Kittivorachate)

The characteristics of this march imitate the “little bird” to symbolize the new members entering the ensemble. Surrounded by everyone’s support, this bird gradually grows, becoming stronger to eventually spread their wings into the endless horizon of the musical world.

Nok Noi March is composed using flexible ensemble instrumentation. The ensemble could flexibly adjust the instrumentation to suit their own ensemble. Moreover, the ensemble could decide on the number of players in any section of the piece, for example, full tutti for the thicker texture or the solo/one per parts in the softer section.
